My cat has a heart murmer and he is getting older. I don’t want to loose him so how should I keep him EXTRA healthy?

I would say start off by checking with your vet. I know that
there are some brands of cat food that cater to animals with specific health problems. You can find them on the internet.

avoid artificial flavors, fillers, by-products, soy, wheat, corn, artificial preservatives, artificial colors, meat that is not organic, meat that has been injected with antibiotics and hormones…well pretty much buy a holistic brand food. i use eagle pack duck and oatmeal formula other stuff may be wellness, but kittys have hard times digesting that….. keep him hydrated, keep him calm, don’t use treats, buy doggy steps for places he likes to climb on and perch. i feel so bad for you, but everything will be allright. ill keep him in my prayers. check out eaglepack.com and go to their holistic select page.

I have many cats stay at our facility with heart murmers some young some older. Some have been staying with us since they were young and now are quite old and still do great. Your vet will probably put him on a beta blocker or other heart med if it gets to that point. He may even add a half a baby asprin twice a week.
But what you can do to insure he lives a long life is keep him at a healthy weight with plenty of play time for exercise, And about diet make sure his food list meat first for the ingredients it has a very important nutrient called Taurine very important for heart health in cats.

Keep him is a very peaceful environment and do not allow him to get stressed. Look for supplements that promote healthy or strong heart. Put him on a good diet and on good quality cat food. See that he gets regular non-strenous exercise such as walking.
