savannah cat

Anyone have a Savannah cat? Do you know if Savannah cats make good pets? http://www.serval-savannah-cat.com I have seen ads for savannah kittens for sale. I really want one but I am worried they maybe to wild. This site http://www.serval-savannah-cat.com/care_sav.htm says no special diet is required for them. I always wanted a wild cat so I think a mix breed savannah cat maybe my perfect answer.

have you watched the Animal Planet? they have a show called Cats 101 where they show the different breeds and one of them is the Savannah
I have had probably 100 cats in my lifetime and I don’t think I’d want to live with the Savannah, they are large, they Hiss a lot and don’t have the easy going disposition that a regular cat has, they will destroy furniture with claws and spraying and if they get outside you might not get them back
    think about it

If you think that you can live with a 25 -30 pound wild animal with ‘cabin fever’ all the best of luck to you.

These cats are very cute and cuddly until they reach maturity and then they want ONE thing only. And that is to run wild and hunt. You cannot train that out of them. That is their prime reason for existing at the most primitive/primal level. These cats become quite uncontrollable and the zoos don’t want to take them and the animal shelters won’t.

The key is “wild”. The chimp that attacked the woman here lately was “wild” but in a human’s environment. Wild animals aren’t meant as pets. Why don’t you just get a big regular domesticated tom cat? There are plenty of cats that need homes.

A Savannah is mixed wild cat, like living w/ a dog that is part wolf.

Their urine smells way worse & you cannot trust that the wild temperament is completely buried. You could never trust it around your children or other pets, much less allow it outside. You could probably need a special rider on your insurance.

You are getting answers about this breed from people who do not own one. You need to talk to those that do everyday. Here are a few who I talk to about them as they are my favorite breed. They are nothing like what the others have stated. I hope you find out more information to make a realistic sound decision about purchasing a savannah cat. Of course all breeders do a prerequisite to ensure their cats are going to a good forever home. Good Luck! =^..^=
