Change and growth is a very important factor in a person’s life. People are constantly
changing and growing. Whether they are changing from a loss or a gain. This is a very common
factor in a persons life. The decisions that we make in our lives will define what kind of person
we will become.
When I was 10 years old I had an Abyssinian cat named Tony. I loved being around Tony
and playing games with him. Day, by day Tony seemed to be gaining more weight. Tony would
just sit on the couch when I came home from school, doing absolutely nothing. Therefore, my
dad and I took Tony to the veterinarian. “Tony’s heart is failing, he is a very ill cat, stated the
veterinarian. So, my dad and I took Tony home and hoped for the best. The next day I came
home from school, and I saw my mom. She looked upset. I knew Tony had passed away. I was
devastated and had no idea what to do.
When I look back at Tony’s death I realize that he was not a major part of my life, however I
Will never forget him. I know realize that death is just part of your life. You are most likely going
to experience death in some point of your life, and you have to learn to deal with it. It has been
weird not having Tony around but I have now adjusted to it. I now realize that he will not be
there when I come home, and his water bowl will always be empty. I am okay with that.
Tony’s death reminds me of the song “Open Arms” by Journey. “Living without you, living
alone, and this house seems so cold without you, wanting you near me”. I am living without
Tony and my house seems so cold without him. Sometimes I just want Tony near me and I just
want to see him. This song reminds me of how much I miss Tony.
I had learned a valuable life lesson through this experience. I learned that nothing lasts
forever. Loss is just a part of life. In life you have to be strong and prepared. The strongest in
life will survive and the weakest will die.
