Can you please explain this?

ragamuffin

There are these infomercials “Feed the Children”, “Support the Children” and so forth and so on. Why do they trot out the ugliest, dirtiest kids for these ads? I would be more apt to support some clean, well behaved, non-pockmarked children than I would these bunches of ragamuffins.
Marie, you have no idea.

what is it that you want to explain ??

  2. Gee? on July 24th, 2009

They want people to feel bad for the kids. You really think a clean kid would be passed off as poor and in need of care?!

Well, they show the ugliest, dirtiest children so that people can have more sympathy and donate money to “Feed the Children”.

    You are insensitive

They do this because they think that people find pitty for people who are underprivaleged. I do find pity for them, but to a certain extent. I know how the world works.

because the ugly dirty kids make more fortunate want to help them….duh
kinda like how if u see a “homeless” person in nice clothes asking for money with a cardboard sign on the side of the road, you dont give them money

I think they are trying to say this child would not look this way if he/she had a sponsor.

Look at what you can fix!

The goal is to make you feel sorry for the children and pull on your heartstrings to make you feel as though you will help to make these kids into the clean, beautiful kids you want to see.

Most of the kids that are starving are most likely going to be unclean and homeless, so they will not be able to shower and such.
As for the ugly, it might be birth defects or the ad makers aren’t very good :D

i think that they are trying to show you what these kids are going through. How they live and what their lifestyle is like and how they really are.

I think it is to make you feel sorry for the kid, truthfully, I do. If they were to poke out the cleanest, most beautiful kid there, (maybe) the viewers might think “That kid is fine, look, he/she is probably alright and doesn’t need /my/ support.” Or something similar.

Then again, that is a possibility.

Ragamuffins, eh? That’s not an ugly thing to say at all.

Well first off, they never show behavior. It’s impossible to know the bad from the well-behaved kids on those commercials. Secondly, it’s to help the unprivileged kids out, not the clean and ‘non-pockmarked children’ as you call them.
I don’t know what you want to be explained to you.

they want you to feel sorry for them and call and donate.
if they show good looking kids then you won’t think they need your money.

You are right. If they are butt ugly, why feed them at all? Why encourage it?

The world needs cuter kids. Starve the ugly ones.

maybe because they don’t have clean water to bathe in maybe they don’t have clean clothes to put on. have u ever thought for a second that’s why they are asking for our help to help these children live in a better place so they can have the same things we take advantage of everyday! we throw out tons of food a day they barely eat food in a day. They cant brush their teeth or comb out their hair. I think your wrong with your statement and need to have some heart. Try living one day the way they do or even imagining it and come reread your question. They are born in that life style they don’t choose it.

haha that’s funny, I think the same way. They want us to feel sorry for these children I guess. That is why they do it.

Soap and water would be a good thing.

What are you doing later ?

That food and money doesn’t really go to those kids. It goes to Sally Struthers.

I agree….I would be much more likely to give my hard-earned cash to a kid who was aesthetically pleasing versus a grubby kid with a distended stomach. And is it really necessary for them to have the tear streaked cheeks of a whiny tantrum-thrower?

Besides, they have big tummies, so how hungry can they really be?

Would you perhaps be more comfortable if they showed pictures of the children from behind?
