Well if you were a good candidate to be an owner for either of these breeds you wouldn’t be asking this question. Why do you want one of these? Status? What do you know about either of these? Research the breeds and learn about their personalities, problems, etc. Then a simple Google search of breeders is all you need to do.

Hi there…both are great cats, however Bengals are very demanding compared to the Mau and are not as suitable in a home with children (please see Bengal info below). Prices for Bengals can range from pet quality $450 to $2500 for show quality. Mau’s ranges from $150 - $500 and/or more respectively. These are estimates as prices varies from region to region and by individual breeders.

Pedigreed cats will be from $500-$2,500 depending on quality and area where the breeder is located. Be sure and look carefully into both breeds of cat. The Bengal is a wild hybrid, bred from the Asian Leopard Cat. Even generations from the original cross, you may be unfortunate enough to get the domestic looks and the wild temperament rather than the wild looks with the domestic temperament. The Mau is all domestic, and is thought to be a descendent of cats originally domesticated in ancient Egypt.

I love both breeds. By the way, all 3 of my Bengals are wonderful with Children! It’s all in how the cat is treated and raised! Bengals are demanding cats! I have one sitting on my shoulder trying to get me to get off the computer right now! I have never owned a Mau, so I don’t know much about them. learn more about the breeds before deciding. Also keep in mind that Bengals are hybrids of wild animals and check your city and state laws. Iowa and Denver have laws against them and I think Florida has been trying to pass laws to ban them. Maus are 100% domestic with no wild animal in them. Ocicats are another breed you may want to consider. There are some wonderful Bengal groups that you can join to meet Bengal breeders and find a kitten. I really wanted a Mau, but if you aren’t in Cali or Texas, good luck finding one. ocicats are cheaper and easier to find than Maus. Bengals are actually TICA’s #1 new breed to be registered now. Seems everyone and their mom breeds these beautiful beasts.
